Iceland is probably on the bucket list of any hardcore traveler. The name conjures up an image of ice and arctic temps, but Iceland’s diversity is striking. Its extreme landscapes ranges from Waterfalls, geysers ,hot springs , glaciers ,lava rock fields, volcanoes and black sand beaches .
My childhood dream was turning into a reality with WOW CLUB planning a 8 day trip in September…..Perfect. Weather is not too cold, the peak tourist season is over and reasonable chances of viewing Northern Lights. Just the thought ” I am going to Iceland ” was so exhilarating !!!
There is a whole lot of “WOW” packed in here….starting off with the Iceland’s most famous geothermal spa, Blue lagoon and visiting the famous attractions on the golden circle route which is considered one of the most epic routes in the world. The tour focused extensively on western Iceland and the west fjords is a world on its own. Breathtakingly beautiful, the coastline is heavily indented by dozens of fjords, where steep hills and mountains cascade into the sea.
Isofjordur is the largest town in the peninsula where I had the most ethereal experience of my life, witnessing one of the nature’s most spectacular phenomena, the Aurora Borealis, the celestial laser show in the sky.
The adage “The journey matters more than the destination” is nowhere truer than in Iceland. We spent long hours driving taking in sights of Earth burnt houses, cute churches, fluffy sheep grazing and our wonderful guide regaling colorful account of the the vikings and the sagas , folklore of elves , the history and culture of Iceland.
The bottom line – Had the most memorable and absolutely exceptional trip but have not had enough. Iceland – Adieu till we meet again.
