    Welcome to Norway

Arrive at Bergen Airport and proceed to the Hotel for check in. Bergen is a city on Norway’s southwestern coast. It's surrounded by mountains and fjords, including Sognefjord, the country’s longest and deepest. Bryggen features colorful wooden houses on the old wharf, once a center of the Hanseatic League's trading empire. Explore the town on your own. Overnight in Bergen.

Hotel Zander K or similar (3*)
  • Day 2

    More About Bergen

Post breakfast, proceed to take the Ulriken Cable Car. The trip gives you a spectacular nature and mountain experience 643 meters above sea level. From the top you have magnificent views of Bergen and the region with sea, skerries, fjords and mountains. Later visit Norheimsund, which is about 80 kilometres from the city of Bergen. Also visit Steinsdalsfossen waterfall. With its 50-meter drop, the waterfall has become a popular attraction and subject to many photos in recent years and is worth a visit. Overnight stay in Bergen.

Hotel Zander K or similar (3*)
  • Day 3

    Bergen To Tromso

Post breakfast, check out and proceed to the Bergen Airport to fly to Tromso. Arrive at Tromso and check into the Hotel. Located 400km north of the Arctic Circle at 69˚N, the small city of Tromsø bills itself as Norway's gateway to the Arctic, and there's definitely more than a hint of polar atmosphere around town. Spend some time exploring the town on your own. Overnight stay in Tromso.

Hotel Radisson Blu Tromso or similar (4*)
  • Day 4

    In & Around Tromso

After the breakfast, proceed for the guided tour in Tromso along with the visit to Polar Museum. The Polar Museum preserves and conveys stories related to this aspect of the history of Tromsø and the Arctic. The Polar Museum’s permanent exhibitions deal with sealing, overwintering trapping, the stories of famous trappers such as Henry Rudi and Wanny Wolstad, the expeditions of Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen. Lovely situated in an 1830s warehouse on the seafront. Overnight in Tromso.

Hotel Radisson Blu Tromso or similar (4*)
  • Day 5

    Largest town, biggest island

Post breakfast, check out and proceed to the Airport to board the flight to Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Touch down in Longyearbyen, the administrative center of Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago. If time permits, enjoy strolling around this former mining town which has got some fascinating attractions. Though the countryside appears stark, more than a hundred species of plant have been recorded in it. In the early evening the ship sails out of Isfjorden, where you might spot the first minke whale of your voyage.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 6

    The first of the Fjords

Sailing to Raudfjorden, on the north coast of Spitsbergen, you take in an expansive fjord spilling with glaciers – and maybe even visited by ringed and bearded seals. The cliffs and shoreline of this fjord also support thriving seabird colonies, rich vegetation, and the possibility of polar bears. In the evening you sail by the island of Moffen, where you can find a large herd of walruses.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 7

    Fjord-fueled hikes

Heading north along the west coast, you arrive by morning in Krossfjorden. Here you might board the Zodiacs for a cruise near the towering blue-white face of the Fourteenth of July Glacier. On the green slopes near the glacier, colorful flowers bloom while flocks of kittiwakes and Brünnich’s guillemots nest on the cliffs. You have a good chance of spotting an Arctic fox scouting for fallen chicks, or a bearded seal paddling through the fjord. In the afternoon you sail to Ny Ålesund, the northernmost settlement on Earth. Once a mining village served by the world’s most northerly railway – you can still see its tracks – Ny Ålesund is now a research center. Close to the community is a breeding ground for barnacle geese, pink-footed geese, and Arctic terns.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 8

    The Great Glacier

Pushing east to Nordaustlandet, you reach the area where the Italian captain Sora tried to rescue the Nobile Expedition in 1928. The focus here is the great glacier front of Schweigaardbreen, though you may also land at Firkantbukta, getting the chance to gain some altitude and take a few higher- elevation photos. Alternately we sail to Behounekodden (the telegraphist of Nobile) and Soraberget.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 9

    Ice cap at Kvitøya

Today you try to reach the rarely visited Kvitøya, far to the east and close to Russian territory. The enormous ice cap covering this island leaves only a small area bare. You land at the western tip of Andréeneset, where the Swedish explorer S. A. Andrée and his companions perished in 1897. Another objective for the day is Kræmerpynten at the far east of the island, where a sizable group of walruses resides.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 10

    Farthest North

We sail due North toward the North Pole and if sea ice allows, we expect to reach your northernmost point, at the 82nd parallel. While retracing your route southwest, keep watch for polar bears and elusive Greenland (bowhead) whales and a very rare narwal. This is the time of year when we have seen Ross’s gulls in the area.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 11

    Stop at the Seven Islands

In the Seven Islands at Rossøya we could land at the northernmost land in Spitsbergen. On Vesle Tavleøya we can see the marks of the Swedishe-Russian Arc of Meridian Expedition (1899). On Phippsøya we usually meet a flock of walruses. Polar bears inhabit this region, so the ship may park for several hours among the pack ice before wheeling around west again.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 12

    Incredible Krossfjorden scener

Today we sail into Krossfjorden in the main island of Spitsbergen, where you’ll pass through staggeringly scenic alpine mountaintops, active glaciers, and rich vegetation.

    M/V Hondius
  • Day 13

    There and back again

Every adventure, no matter how grand, must eventually come to an end. You disembark in Longyearbyen, taking home memories that will accompany you wherever your next adventure lies. Check out from the ship at 9 AM and proceed to the Airport to board the flight to Oslo for the overnight stay.

Hotel Radisson Blu Alna or similar (4*)
  • Day 14

    Spend Some Time in Oslo

After the breakfast, get ready to know Oslo a little bit more. We start with a guided tour of the city which will also include Fram museum. This museum will be telling the story of Norwegian polar exploration. It is located on the peninsula of Bygdøy in Oslo, Norway. Later in the evening proceed for the Wallman’s Show with farewell dinner. Return to the Hotel for Overnight stay in Oslo.

Hotel Radisson Blu Alna or similar (4*)
  • Day 15

    Depart or Extend

Post breakfast, check out and proceed to the airport to board the flight back home or extend further for a few more days to visit the Fjords of Flam.

  • "

The recent trip to Norway with WOW has been an extremely enriching experience. The entire trip was thought through and extremely well planned and executed.
We started with a day in Oslo on a quick city tour. The Vigeland Park was the highlight of this tour - a sculpture museum of over 200 installations in bronze, cast iron and granite.
The following day was an exciting train ride to Flåm on the famed Flåm railway. The spectacular vistas through mighty snow covered mountains was breathtaking. Upon reaching Flåm we drove up to Stegastein viewpoint where we were literally blown away in blizzard like conditions. There were plenty of selfie and wefie moments in the snowing wilderness.
The following day was a cruise around the fjords leaving us completely in awe of nature and its varied forms.
    The following day was another
train ride to Bergen and on reaching there, a trudge through calf high snow in the rail station dragging our bags to the waiting bus. Quite an experience !!!
We boarded our onward flight to Tromso fingers and toes crossed as we would soon be chasing the Northern lights - the sole reason that each of us on the tour were ready to battle the Arctic winter!!
Whilst we were on the flight high above the clouds, I started to notice some colours in the evening sky, and as the sky started to darken the Gods appeared in all their glory for us to see them up close from the air craft. All of us were super excited and once in the hotel couldn’t wait to board the bus to start our chase. That night, after a two hour bus ride outside of Tromso (to get away from any kind of light pollution) we stopped at a certain point to get off the bus and lo behold the lights appeared and performed for us for an hour and a half!! It was bitterly cold, pitch dark and no time to set up the camera - but the phone app worked and we got some amazing shots of the famed Northern lights.
Each one of us were exhausted that night due to sheer excitement and went to bed with the celestial show in our minds eye.

To do it not to do - husky sledding in Tromso. Big ethical dilemma -was undecided until just before I left india.
And was I glad I finally did it!! To put to rest the fears, apprehensions of dog /animal lovers - the huskies require tremendous exercise and pulling sledges is what they enjoy most. They were clamouring to get going.
The sledge ride through the magical Arctic winter wilderness - just blankets of snow and brown branches of endless rows of trees and a caravan of husky sledges - fairyland indeed!
The dogs range in ages between 2 to 15 years!! They run 10kms and are happiest doing that. On checking we were told that each team of six dogs do two such trips every day with a two hour rest period in between. They love being petted and are adorably affectionate. The slightly shy ones look away, wanting to be just left alone. Truly a once in a several lifetime experience.

The next and final stop was the Lofoten islands.
The Archipelago of Lofoten is one of those places that is so beautiful that I could get into an argument with Nature on how unfair she has been.
Check this out for yourself - and honestly, my pictures do scant justice to the breathtaking beauty of the place and the hospitality of the locals.
The islands are spread across the north western coast of Norway and there’s a fishy fragrance in the air as fishing is a big industry here. Drying fish begins early in February so that they dry naturally and turn out to be the best quality.
The small islands are connected by tunnels - some which are undersea road tunnels going several meters below!! The berries come out a bit later. It’s just like wonderland here, snow notwithstanding.
Though within the Arctic Circle, the archipelago experiences one of the world's largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude!!! 😛😃
After one final evening at Oslo, we bid goodbye to the stunning sights of Norway and headed homewards you our respective cities in India.
Thank you Vithika for being the best ever WOW buddy ever. Your cheerful disposition, your proactive attitude and ‘being on top of all situations’ was truly appreciated. You were an epitome of grace and professionalism.
This WOW journey was superbly WOW indeed!!! Thank you.

We are all back from a wonderful holiday and but yet, I am not over with it. The hangover remains and I am sure this would remain in my soul lifelong.

The experience has been out of the world and this was my FIRST SOLO TRIP. I wasn't sure about the trip and how would the trip be managed and taken forward . Whether my decision in taking the trip with WOW was correct or wrong. I can proudly say that if I hadn't taken this decision I would have made the biggest mistake of my life and have had missed this wonderful experience which I would cherish throughout .

The trip has given me lots of motivations to get fitter in life and more positive. Made wonderful friends for a lifetime and all thanks to wow for the same.

Kumud you have been a wonderful wow buddy and you have really taken great efforts in holding people together and being a great host and friend.
